That seems to be things to expect for such major upgrade: gnome2 -> gnome3. If you wish to move to gnome3 while on tesing/unstable system, you need to deal such transition yourself for each account on the system as I understand. If you do not like to deal with such complication, please keep using Debian stable. Of course, if you can come up with bug-free robust transition script from gnome2 to gnome3, please file wishlist bug with your proposed script.
