There was some confusion (to me) about some of the credentials -- notably my
old computers (Wheezy and Jessie) use port
587 for smtp, Trixie tried to use a different port (was it 465?) -- iirc, I
tried both.
There is an autodetect button in the Sending settings. But for example
my ISP apparently supports both 465 and 587 since I had 465 in
Thunderbird (other computer) but kmail autodetected 587.
The dependence on Akonadi bothers me, along with suggestions I've seen on the
order of purge and reinstall Akonadi --
that sounds like the traditional Microsoft reboot advice (and not very
reassuring) -- e.g., will I lose emails when I do
that? If that works, how often will I have to do that.
I don't think I've ever needed to wipe anything from Akonadi but again,
not a heavy user of kmail or Akonadi. I do remember a time years (maybe
over a decade) ago when it was unable to deal with a computer sleeping,
I had to restart the akonadi daemons by hand.
What does KMail use for autodetect? Thunderbird has failed to correctly
autodetect for minor providers for me. (AND it confidently detects a
wrong one!) Have you checked whether the configuration is really correct?
