FYI, here's what happened.
The E-mail that was sent to the list was sent as a plaintext E-mail
(specifically, one MIME segment of type "text/plain"). Because of that,
the E-mail was scanned as a text file. Depending on the scanner being
used, the virus may or may not have been detectable.
In any case, mail clients should not have shown an attachment on the
E-mail, so it should be impossible for anyone to have executed the virus
(without cutting and pasting and manually MIME-decoding it).
