Please note, Qchain is a known flop, even admitted by some in MS. Only works some of the time.

The General rule of thumb is that anytime NT asks you for the original CD you need to re-apply the service pack.

The bad thing is that you probably need to re-apply all Post SP6a hotfixes (including IIS Nimda fixes, etc).

My suggestion: W2k. You can build a W2k CD and fuse the service packs into the original CD.

Also try:

And:

Make sure you use HFNetChk.exe

Subject: [Declude.JunkMail] OT: M$ Service Packs

I know that this is OT but does anyone know the correct rules for M$ Service Packs. I have an NT 4.0 box that has been running for awhile. Now I have to install a TCP/IP printer and the TCP/IP printer service is not already installed. My understanding is that after I install TCP/IP Print service from the original NT cd-rom, I'll have to reinstall service pack 6a and then all of the security and critical updates. Is this true?

Sandy? John? Scott?

Thanks and sorry for the OT.

Hank
