Server: dns.denic.de
Address: 194.246.96.79

Name: www.grepel.de
Address: 192.67.198.4

Seems to me, as if it's resolving just fine?

Broken?

I believe what Scott meant (indeed, what he wrote) is that the responses you
are getting from nslookup are NOT for grepel.de. They are for the ".de"
TLD. Nslookup attempts to provide as much information it can on the domain
it is looking up. In this case, it queried the root servers for "grepel.de"
and got a referral to the servers that handle ".de". It then queried the
.de servers and found nothing for grepel.de, so it returned everything it
had (the ".de" information). IOW, you DID get a response, just not the one
you thought you got. You can see in your posts that every record returned
is for "de", not "grepel.de".

pe=A , you'll see that the parent ("root") servers for .de say that
www3.grepel.de doesn't exist -- without ever sending you to NS records for
www3.grepel.de.

That's the SOA record for .de. When a DNS server returns a SOA record in
response to a query, it means that the queried resource doesn't exist.
