Asking them to run an attachment apparently coming from someone they know, is EXACTLY how viruses are spread. And some Viruses even claim that an attachment will fix this or that virus. So - you are training your users how to infect their machine.
Do as I say - not as I do - is not the best approach to virus protection. Consider simply adding the URL to the McAfee Stinger tool. It's a free, concise scanner and cleaner of the most recent, most frequently found viruses. Very straightforward to install and run.
