Well, In mac we use it the same as you in linux, and also with the "locations" aproach, but in windows it is very difficult to get it to work, (MS says it is possible, but I have never seen it working).
Because of that I made a little utility en delphi in two or three hours to let you save your ip config (left button in the windows) and then restore it when neccesary (right button).
