That will be very welcome - thanks for the offer.  As I said before I'm going 
to need all the help and advice I can get here.

So far I've followed Malcolm's suggestion re Async Pro, and had but a brief 
word with the guy who'll be constructing the 'interface'.  He wanted to know
what frequency the signals should be, allowing for the fact that they would 
like to be able to test more than one motor at a time (does that make a 
difference ?),
but I'm still scouring the net for help with even the basics so I was unable to 
tell him - I just hope that they are willing and able to give me a fair amount 
of time on this one!  What would be really useful is if anyone knows of the 
existence of any simple demo projects (they don't necessarily have to be 
Delphi, though of course it would be ideal if they were).
