I haven't seen or heard a single word about upgrades to the "Delphi"
side of Delphi 2006, and I have to agree, the refactoring they threw in for
the last version has actually cost me more time than it has saved, as I too
tend to break my methods into small readable chunks!
The big problem for me as I see it is that I have quite an
investment in components for Delphi that will not be of any use were I to
begin doing all new work in C# or even Chrome. Take the Jedi lib for
example. I use that every day! And then there are the great string
functions in SysTools...also open source. Where or how will I replace
these? I use only the Pro version as well, and if things don't change that
means another 600 just for their upgrade ea h year, and that isn't too bad,
but when you begin adding up all the support tools, utilities, and
components, it really starts to add up!
The second most worrisome problem is that were I to move to C# or
Chrome, I'm locked into .NET. And from what I hear, .NET doesn't run any
better than Java did the first couple years. 100% of the work I've gotten
has been in the client-side or desktop application area. Can programs
written in .Net compete on the "personal" or small business desktop? I seem
to get nothing but ambiguous replies to this question and that scares me!

I guess the thing is is that I've always used the Pro version. And simply
looking at a spec sheet won't really tell me if something is practical for
me.

Take the refactoring feature for example.

Doesn't do me much good as my coding style leans away from having huge long
methods that include everything but the kitchen sink. By my very nature I
break processes down into steps and each step is it's own method.

So I was just hoping for some day-to-day examples of the really practical
features that I might be able to take advantage of.

How deep are your pockets? Go to Borland's site and compare the differences.
There are a few.
