Speaking of CVS, my company switched from cvs to svn(subversion.)
It's free and the client software tortoiseSVN is very very easy
to use. But I never set up the server side so I'm not sure if it's
easy. Because it's good for corporate use, I suppose it's an overkill
(I mean the set up and maintenance need) for small groups or personal
use. I once tried to set up cvs server for my personal use and decided
it's too much work for what I want to do, and I don't like the windows
version manages users - you need to create a few Windows user accounts
for it to use.

I remember there are some very simple and easy to set up cvs systems.
I'm not sure if FreeVCS or JediVCS are such systems. I have no
experience with them.
