This thread should probably be off topic, but the key thing for me is
the underlying language.  I would expect any computing professional to
understand that OO languages like ObjectPascal and C++ are generally
better than (Visual) Basic with untyped variants.

I wonder how many programmers (& their managers) actually have the
training to be able to understand why an OO approach is better when
approaching a biggish software development project? Any of the VB
advocates got Com Sci degrees?

The other thing about VB that gets me is that it has a total reliance on
external VBX/OBX/COM objects - this bite developers in support problems
as if any of the DLL's change (and they do) then your app can grind to a
halt, (see the problems with ComCtrl32 alone).  With VCL being bound up
in the EXE then you app is more self-contained and more likely to keep
running over the years.

That being said I don't much like advocacy of any product - IMHO you
should always just use the most right tool for the job whether it be
Delphi, VB or (god forbid) Fortran.
I for one would love to use Delphi on a project I have coming up for a
handheld device but the only real choice I have at the moment is C++
(uggh).

Subject: [DUG]: Why Delphi is Better Than VB

Hi all.
Well I have a queston that may return MANY answers and cause some debat,
that maybe healthy.....hehehe

Where I am working at the moment, they are very Vb orientated...which is
fine..to a point.
I have meantioned Delphi a few times for certain things, but the guywhy
they rely on to make these decisions in totally VB biased, and NOT
interested in anyother technology at all...which as you can imagine is
damn frustrating.

I was talking to my boss yesterday, and she seemed quite interested in
Delphi......BUT what I would like to aks is this, soi can answer the
critices elsewhere at work, is "Why is Delphi Better than VB".
No Iknow some of the obvious questions, but I am looking for a reason
for them to standup and take notice of Delphi....i.e. widden their
horizens......
I know VB does some stuff better than Delphi, but I also would like to
know of some BIG developments done in Delphi her in NZ if pos.....

Thanks, and look forward to the banter that follows this
email....hehehehe
