Most "Reference Books" I've seen cover the same material - Databases
(Paradox and IB using the BDE), Forms, Dialog, DLL's and posibly Threads
plus the obligatory section on the internet (which usually isn't very
useful).
Most of these topics are covered at an introductory level and are not very
in depth. Often there are code examples which will compile about 70-80% of
the time. They show you the basics and after that you are on your own.
The best thing to do would be to buy a subscription to Delphi Informant.
You can also get all of the back issues on a CD (see
http://www.informant.com/ and hunt around the site for info on how to do
this) for around $US40. This particular maggaxzine is packed with articles
on just about every topic you could want (mosy of what I know about Delphi I
have gleened from there or list servers like this one).
However for serious Windows programming I have found two books very useful.
1 - The Tomes of Delphi 3: The Core Win32 API
2 - The Tomes of Delphi 3: The Core Win32 Graphical API
These are reference books, not tutorials. However they contain an enourmous
wealth of useful information on Windows and the API.
The code examples will work with any 32 bit version of Delphi. There is one
catch. They are just about impossible to get here. I ordered them from
http://www.amazon.com/ in America. (It will probably be about 30% cheaper to
do it this way than to order them through someplace like Whitcouls).
I think the Multimedia API book will be out soon or could be out now.
