Free SQL?, in my experience there is no such thing as a free lunch, free now
pay later maybe (when there is only SQL server cause everyone dumped their
existing platforms and moved to MS because of some flashy marketing).
I don't think you can expect Inprise to give away their database, I don't
give away my software, in the cases where I have been stupid enough to do
that I've ended up making a rod for my own back - the client ends up
expecting everything for free, you kind of devalue your product in their
eyes.
This has been our first year using IB, we put it into about 23 sites (Win95
through to Solaris) and have had only 1 database corruption, and the site
in question manages to corrupt everything you throw at it anyway. We chose
IB because of it's competitive pricing in the low-end database market,
especially single user sites, and it's (claimed) scalability and stability.
No regrets.
You get what you pay for....

Subject: [DUG]: Save IB
I think if Inprise/Borland immediately does not come up with the similar to
MS plan, they may say goodbye to IB.
Free IB re-distributable for Borand developers with the same up to 5 users
license would be the right answer and it must be quick.
I'd suggest local Borland to contact USA Borland and tell them that people
may start jumping off IB train quicker they one may think.
IB is better in may areas but it is far from being clear winner. 5 free
users licenses for MSSQL is enough to make IB looser.
Oh, Microsoft, you've done it again! But this time it is not gonna make such
amount of noise as embedding IE into OS.
