OK, here's MY opinion, and I, personally, think I'm entitled to one
that does not represent Inprise. So there.

Not likely. I dont think MS sees Inprise as a big enough threat:

1) INPR has Delphi on windows (C++B too, but thats even smaller), and thats
it. JB
runs on all platforms, but....
2) MS doesn't give a toss about Java, hence why they dont consider JB a
threat. Also, JB _ownes_ the Java IDE market, AFAIK.
3) Linux may not be huge at the moment, but if a) Inprise does Kylix
properly (initial server focus, then client) and b) Linux doesn't self
desruct, then it could be the VB of Linux - ie, massive market share. And
all signs show it could be that way, too....

Different target market. Java is good in cross platform or on the server.
Kylix is Linux-only - lots of people are using Java on the server, on
Solaris - and seems to be mostly client focused, as is Delphi.

I _can_ see a Java app on a Solaris box (or a Linux box :) ) and a
Kylix-written client on Linux. Or Win32 with Delphi 6. :)

'cos of MS's marketing, basically. Take MS out of the equation, and you have
a market ruler. Look at JBuilder. Its #1 by a LOT of % (something like 70%
market share), and its an area that MS does not play. Just like Linux.

Which should also mean more of a share on the windows side of things,
too.....
