I think upgrade pricing in 30-50% of new price range is fine. Borland just dont
do it for Enterprise. I have had this argument every release - "there is so much new
technology
in this release, that it justifies the price" is the usual argument. However, it
isnt just new technology added on the whole - its more like whole scale chuck out of
previous technology (with all your investment in it) and replacement by new.
Sometimes the whole scale chuck out is because the previous stuff was seriously
flawed - in which case I think acknowlegement and compensation by way of cheap
upgrade is more in order than price jacking. Personally, I would rather just
see unbundling so we can get the bits we really need.
