Ironic to see these posts. After what seems like a lifetime I just finally successfully (key word) moved up to XE2 from D5. Took two or three days to get it, Intraweb and TMS to work together but I finally got there. Had made many unsuccessful attempts prior to this trying to move first to D2009 and then XE2 and there were always mismatches on versions of third-party tools. The problem becomes that you have to be productive and spending days on end fighting all these version incompatibilities, not to mention the paradigm shift in the IDE, is anything but, so you abandon the effort and stick with your current version. And D5 was solid, the beast I knew.
I'm now comfortable with XE2 and like it now that I've found where everything is. Have built a fairly impressive website with it without running into any killer bugs or, frankly, many bugs at all. However, after taking the bath of upgrading all the tools and getting them to work I plan on staying with XE2 until 1) the year 2025 or 2) my death, whichever comes first. BTW, Stephen, I've still got some legacy TurboPower components lurking around. Have largely replaced them. There are some things you have to do to get over UAC. The first article that explained what to do was this excellent one http://www.drbob42.com/examines/examin84.htm Although this was for Vista, the steps also apply to Windows 7 and 10 and the article covers pretty much everything you need to do. I now have Delphi 7 running fine with Windows 10, by the way. There is a lot of advice out on the web on how to get it all running. Well, Delphi 3 won't install on my Win7x64 laptop but I had a copy of Delphi 6 Personal Edition also from many years ago. So I'm migrating to Delphi 6. Are there any things in particular that 'break' when you move a project from Delphi 3 to Delphi 6? Are there any tips or things to look out for? Or is Delphi 6 totally backwards-compatible with Delphi 3?
