Here, a lot of people who might normally have purchased Interbase, have gone across to Firebird. They don't even advertise a price for Interbase so there can be no comparison. and what is the official relationship between Embarcadero (Delphi) and the > Lazarus/Free Pascal community? > > I get the impression this is sort of cooperative – are some of the cross > compiler stuff and other tools in XE2 born in part out of the Lazarus > community (such as parts of Firemonkey and the MacOS compiler)? > That I'm not so certain of. but I think you are right. Embarcardero do not lose any customers to Lazarus (or minimal) as Delphi 7 developers are still strong in the community. On the other hand people who start out in Lazarus may eventually come over to Delphi, so it's a symbiotic relationship.
