sounds like you were working "gentleman's hours" :)

I see where you are coming from.

But this isn't just a programmer issue. I remember working for a company in
Auckland where I was expected to turn up for work at 7am every day and anyone
who left the office before 5:30 was "suspect". I was regularly sent to Sydney
where I had to be at the airport at 4am for a 7am flight (in those days where 3
hour checkins were required). Spend the entire day in an office or taxi in
Sydney, then fly home (never ever put up for the night) where I wouod finally
walk into my apartment just after midnight. I was still expected to give a
debriefing to everyone at 7am.

Yes, that was salary, no overtime, no bonuses, not even a Christmas gift, just
salary - and although I had a training budget, I was never allowed to be away
from work to attend any training. Training had to be done in my own time, but
as I was regularly working through weekends for a customer presentation on
Monday, I didn't have any of that stuff.

Salary is "salary" is purely an employers' perspective - for an employee a 80k
salary for a job where you end up working 60 hour weeks is worse than a 60k

and expectations. consequently the average "on paper" salary is 80k-ish but
the "real" salary measured by the return against the effort is a lot less.
most people don't just turn off at 5pm and at the least the back of the brain
is still churning over the latest issue - have you never woken up with the
brilliant fix for an issue you have pondered for a long time?

Salary is "salary", not hourly rate :)

Hi Everyone,

I was just wondering, what is the average salary for a permanent Delphi
developer out there in the marketplace these days?
