My problem was not with just text files but with all files. Double-clicking an mp3 file, for example, would take at least 30 seconds before it even started to load the default audio player. During this time, the Windows Explorer window (or the desktop) where the file was run from hangs.
The biggest hassle was right-clicking a file to view the properties or Send To etc. Right-click and go make a coffee and hope the context menu appeared before I got back. I searched the internet for hours several months ago and found some with a similar problem but no solutions worked for me.
