Well :-) If you were a good programmer then these things would be documented. If I were employing you and you were considering leaving then I would hope for as much notice as possible.
As an employee, I only ever felt this loyalty once. My boss wept when I told him I was leaving and started promising whatever I wanted. I still had to leave and I found my replacement before I left.
