When using a map I expect it to behave in a similar way to products I have used before (Joel's first law of software usability). Mapworlds topomap lets you pan with the mouse without holding down any key. Of course the main difference is that it's a image based solution so zooming is a must less used feature. Still my expectation for the interface is that I can use the mouse to pan around, then hold down a key and use the mouse to zoom. My typical usage of the map is to find some tramping track I want to do and then pan around the area to see what the access/other features are. Much panning, little zooming. I have to be at a fairly low level to see all the terrain features relevant for tramping/hunting.
Numerous times I have accidentally zoomed out to far, then lost the location I was looking at and had to search for it again. I realise that there is another gui mode in Tumonz but when I tried it there was another common feature that was now harder to get to. Exactly what escapes me for now. Tumonz is still a better solution that the google products for now. Google maps doesn't show terrain features and Google Earth doesn't have enough resolution to be useful in NZ. Question for Phil: If I purchase the property module for version 2 will it still be able to be used with version 3?
