Thanks to everyone who has been updating the 10.5 release page. So far I
don't have a sense of whether the community would be comfortable with
producing a release candidate in mid-March.
Hi Rick,
I'm working on various LOB improvements, both quality and performance.
It is already mentioned on the 10.5 release page (I'll update it when
necessary).
To sum up remaining work:
o finish work on new header format
o do some cleanup (remove now unused code etc)
o add mechanism to update first X bytes of the CLOB value
o run performance tests and document improvements
I hope to complete the work end of January / start of February, with the
exception of the third item (header update). The header update mechanism
will only affect insertions where the length of the stream isn't
specified ("lengthless overrides"), and for these cases the performance
characteristics will be the same as before when it comes to obtaining
the length.
If I finish when I have planned, there will be plenty of time for bug
fixing. If people have applications using LOBs extensively, it would be
nice if they ran it with trunk to test the new code.
Thanks,

Are there any other major features which we should add? For instance, I
see that there's been a lot of progress on DERBY-3788 (Provide a
zero-admin way of updating the statisitcs of an index). Do we want to
include that feature in 10.5--if so, is mid-March reasonable?
Thanks,
