Hi Brian,
The date-time code is not doing any stamping at all. It simply parses the text we input and returns a time tuple if a recognizable date/time existed in the text. I am currently working on stamping the items and handling the timers, etc in Chandler. You can see the patch for Bug 6470 in case you want to see how I am doing it.
It will be great of we can reuse the same code for your purpose too.

This will work exactly as I wanted for mail. Sounds like I can just create the Message Item, stamp it the type request by the user via IMAP (either Task or Calendar), then pass it along to the datet-ime parser. If there is additional information the date-time tool will handle any additional stamping as well as adding timer or start and end date if contained in the mail subject or body.
