Priscilla, correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the thinking behind providing access to the home directory UI through settings is that an advanced and technical Casual Collaborator would be comfortable manipulating the contents of their account (e.g. adding and revoking tickets, adding and removing collections) through the home directory browser UI.
i don't see how this relates to settings in any way.
bcm, what is your particular objection to providing access to the admin/home dir from the login page? It seems like if we can agree that there will be minimal overlap between home dir users and Casual Collaborators, providing access to the home dir from the login page would streamline the workflow for the home dir users and de-clutter the calendar/dashboard UI for the Casual Collaborators.
i just think it's clumsy and a little confusing. i go to the front page of cosmo and see a login form, but because i want to do some admin task i have to click another link to presumably get a different login page that will take me to the admin ui when i submit that one's login form. also, showing a link to the admin ui before the person is logged in can be confusing to users who aren't admins. i can imagine the support questions now: "i tried to log in to the admin ui but i couldn't get in? why not? "answer: you aren't an admin". right now the link to the admin ui only appears if the already-logged in user is an admin. non-admins never see that link. as far as streamlining and de-cluttering, both worthy goals. i just don't like any of the suggestions so far for achieving them :) putting a small link in the footer or some other out of the way place that does not exist for a completely separate purpose (like the settings dialog, which is for a user to configure the details of his account). as a user of all of the different uis, i'd be happy to have one login form that takes me to the pim ui if that ui has links somewhere into the other uis. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Open Source Applications Foundation "Design" mailing list http://lists.osafoundation.org/mailman/listinfo/design
