this doesn't make sense ... you're saying that when the user makes a
selection from a menu located on the collection details dialog, that
cosmo is supposed to open the collection details dialog. chicken/egg.

My apologies, you are correct. The 'Collect Details' dialog will not pop up another 'Collection Details' dialog. What I meant to say is that if the user subscribes either from the pulldown or by clicking on the 'info' icon to prompt the 'Collections Dialog', that is where the user will copy/paste the URL to subscribe into their calendaring app. No auto launch. That's all. Does that make sense?
what i *think* you mean is this:

1) if the user is selecting from the signup menu on the preview page,
the collection details dialog comes up *without its own menu* with the
specific instructions corresponding to the signup menu selection

I'm not sure what you mean by *without its own menu*. The Collection Details dialog prompts exactly the same as if you had selected the info icon (as mentioned below) but defaulted to the selected item from the drop down menu.
2) if the user goes to the collection details dialog directly from the
preview page (by clicking some icon or control), the collection
details dialog appears *with the menu* but *without any specific
signup instructions*.

An instruction brief will always appear in the 'Collections Dialog'. The instructions will correspond to the application/subscription format in the drop down menu. Does that make sense?

I'll try and mock up a quick visual workflow so it's more clear.
