I'm wondering how often users will actually be able to 'see' these bylines change. I think we're okay so long as users all see the 'same' byline value and we don't lose information about Updates received via Email.

So to sum up the requirements I have here:
+ Everyone sharing sees the same byline value
+ Byline value doesn't change if there are conflicts and the conflicting changes haven't actually been applied

Hmm, these two above requirements seem to be in conflict with each other. I'm not sure I understand how everyone can see the same byline if different people resolve the conflicts differently.

Yes, that's true, if everyone resolves a conflict differently, they they will all see different bylines until the conflict gets resolved by a single person. (This everyone resolves a conflict differently will occur only in the following instances...
+ Edit/Update via email
+ A single item is shared in 2 different collections with 2 different sets of people.

If an item is shared in only 1 collection and no edit/update is happening, it shouldn't be possible to have multiple people resolving conflicts, correct?

However, all things being equal :o), as in aside from this 'different people resolving conflicts differently' everyone should see the same byline, because we use the same logic to calculate which editor wins.
