If an item is shared in only 1 collection and no edit/update is happening, it shouldn't be possible to have multiple people resolving conflicts, correct?

Unfortunately it is possible: If three people (A, B, and C) are sharing the collection, and they all update the body of an event, and A updates the server first. When B and C sync, they each now have unresolved conflicts. If B discards A's change, and C applies A's change, they've resolved it differently and will have different bylines at this point. If B syncs next, B's change is on the server now. When C syncs he receives B's change without a conflict (because C has no local changes).
