This is actually what happend to Nero and k3b. Nero a leading CD/DVD writing application on Windows came to the Linux Desktop market a little bit too late and consequently failed. From http://applications.linux.com/article.pl?sid=05/03/31/2136203&tid=13&tid=47&tid=49 "Why anyone would bother with Nero when a much superior product, K3b, does it faster, better, and is fully GPL'd, is beyond me." I expect the same will happen for Adobe acrobat in the next 12 to 24 months.
