As you know, Geeksphones have shipped and people are just starting to
get them, so here's some feedback. The feedback is super limited, though
so this is basically everything (n=1 for most things)
Overall:
People seem to be happy with it as a pre-release beta but it needs work.
Given how little feedback we have, the following issues get mentioned a
number of times:
1) Marketplace apps don't install.
2) Connectivity problems
3) Problems migrating contacts from SIM card
4) SIM card support is lacking for some carriers
5) General responsiveness could be improved (some comments that this is
better if you update to latest Gaia)
6) Font size is too tiny (probably on the Peak)
7) Youtube doesn't play
8) SMS doesn't work (may be people updating to a non-official build?)
There are also a lot of recommendations around telling people to move
off the official GP builds and onto Gaia v1-train. This concerns me
because this means we're getting less testing on the actual builds that
will ship in July and there may be an issue with 1.0.1 builds that is
driving this move that isn't getting attention.
Lastly, given that we can't get build/device information automatically
via the user agent, it's making my job very difficult, since there are
now at least 6-7 builds out there, not to mention people using the
emulator. I can't promise anything about how current this feedback is.
Detailed feedback:
Positives:
1. "This is amazing!!!!! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE port it to Android
devices, such as Samsung Galaxy S2,3,4, etc. Please make Google Play/App
Store apps available... Thanks for being great! :) P.S.: Love the
keyboard too!"
2. "excellent, encore pas de boulot à faire dessus mais pour le moment
c'est correct et je suis d'accord avec d'autre utilisateur il a beaucoup
de potenciel Je l'attends avec impatience personnellement "
3. "Using my brand new geeksphone with #firefoxos … it's really cool! I
love it!"
4. "After updating to latest Gaia on #FirefoxOS Peak phone the whole
user experience makes a big leap forward."
GP forums:
Keon:
1. Reset to factory defaults breaks the phone:
http://forum.geeksphone.com/index.php?topic=4783.0
2. No support for SDHC cards (not verified):
http://forum.geeksphone.com/index.php?topic=5189.0
3. Difficulties importing Gmail contacts (importer tool doesn't work):

Peak: There's a lot more here probably because peaks are outselling Keons:
Here's a long review thread:
http://forum.geeksphone.com/index.php?topic=4711.0,
summarizing it and other threads:
1. Feels very beta but the interface looks good.
2. Issue with sound recording and camera
3. Touch/scrolling is unreliable
4. Browser doesn't wait for connection before erroring out
5. OS can get unresponsive when trying to download or on bad connections
6. Landscape mode/portrait mode issues
7. Poor bluetooth audio quality and needs contact support
8. SIM import of contacts truncates names and merges fields
9. Lots of connectivity issues (especially after extended use). We hear
this a lot from Telefonica as well.
10. Problems with SIM cards in Israel
http://forum.geeksphone.com/index.php?topic=5183.0 here's another
(location unknown): http://forum.geeksphone.com/index.php?topic=4755.0
11. Camera has a fixed (low) resolution

12. Other problems with contacts and importing:
http://forum.geeksphone.com/index.php?topic=5187.0
13. Font size is too small.
Mozilla reps (keons):
1. Marketplace app is not working -- some comments that you have to open
it in the browser first
2. Youtube videos aren't playing
3. Lots of audio problems: confusion around things not making sound when
they should. Seems to be related to different audio levels for different
streams but the one for the radio seems to override the others.
4. Some issues when switching to and from landscape mode.
Twitter:
Discounting blogs/news links and posts by Mozilla employees/acccounts,
it's mostly "I got a phone", "look at the potential" so far. General
theme seems to be that it's a low-end device and it's worth keeping an
eye on for future developments.
Twitter is definitely more positive than other channels but possibly
because it's not a good place to report issues and it's more likely
where people go when they're excited.
Input:
Lots of developer questions/concerns and people clearly using the
browser tool.
Some (likely) physical phone feedback:

2. Pairing bluetooth devices that require a 6-digit pin isn't possible:

3. SIM import: https://input.mozilla.org/en-US/dashboard/response/3735311
4. SIM card support:

5. Gallery isn't picking up all the pictures on the SD card:

6. Font size issues (likely peak):

7. Need to switch off of Bing:

Let me know if I can follow up on anything. Also, this kind of report
gets a lot better if I know what kind of information you are looking for
specifically as I can focus my efforts and even proactively get feedback.
Cheng.
