Your colleagues are wrong. Ask them if they have two windows up today,
one with the java-code and one with the byte-code and if they do edits
on both sides and expect them to be synched. (Now I would like to see
that. On the other hand it is roumored that this is the reason IBM had
to keep compatibility between their mainframe computers. People had done
so many patches to the object code that the source code was no longer
valid...)
Half your staff should drop java totally and concentrate on making
complete models. The other part should focus on making a model to code
translator that is tailored to your needs. I can already hear people
protest and say that this is not possible, but it is. At work we are
doing it today (not using argoUML). I know also it is being done in for
instance pacemakers and set-top boxes.
If in doubt, contact Mentor and ask them for a demo of their Bridgepoint
product. By the way, they are integrated with eclipse.
However I can only see the likes of NetBeans and Eclipse eventually
doing that with or without us. If its without us then who would then
need us?
Everyone like me who dislikes bloated products where integration is more
important than functionality. The mentor stuff above works in the
eclipse, but so far the previous version had far less bugs and were
easier to use once you had learnt to use it.
