PRISM/RDF, I'd appreciate them.

Yes, in this case I know what you're talking about. :-)
And I'm sure the complexity of MODS is one of the main reasons why
MODS hasn't found more adoption among (PHP) developers of the
bibliophile community.
The same could be said for CQL, btw. At least what concerns PHP
developers. It would be great if we could find someone who'd be
willing to develop (or finance the development) of a good PHP CQL
parser. This would greatly ease the implementation of standards
like SRU/SRW+CQL for PHP developers and would enable them to
actually start with real inter-application communication...
Plus, these developers would be all ready to support OOo when its
new bibliographic feature set is out. (at least if I understood you
correctly that communication with OOo will be via HTTP using stuff
like SRU/SRW+CQL, right?)
