Hi everybody. I have an idea for OpenOffice but not enough Java/UNO programming experience to start, so you can certainly help :

The idea is to add (basic) GIS (Geographical Information System) functionalities to OpenOffice Base. This kind of features terribly lacks in standard DBMS, thus people interested in displaying maps must use another software - and that often means spending a lot of time to get used to it. I'm not talking about executing advanced spatial queries or image analysis, but something like displaying a map would be a good start.

I have many ideas of how it could look like - I tried to summarize them on a webpage : http://n.clavaud.free.fr/OOoGIS/index-en.htm - but I have no idea how it could be implemented in OOo : do I have to create an add-on or a UNO component? I have Java + Netbeans + OOo SDK, and a basic understanding of english. Do I need anything else?

Who would be interested to join / help me?

Thank you,
Nicolas

And btw, thanks to all who have answered my first post (which is already one-year old...) : http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/BrowseList?list=dev&by=thread&from=1595100
