And is the primary reason I don't normally use forums... The one time I made
serious use of a forum was when I needed some info about a problem with my
old Chrysler Valiant.... I still would have preferred a mailing list, since I
still had to fire up Opera (at that time - it was then far superior to
firefox in speed of rendering), find the bookmark, log in, find the latest
reply, usually had to navigate a thread to find it, and then if I needed to
respond I had to wait (again) for the necessary page to render. It used to
take bout 5 minutes minimum to do all that.

With email, the response would have been delivered to my inbox (actually would
have been filtered to its own folder), I would have been able to read it
straight away, and back up through the thread if need be (yes my email
program threads messages, better than many forums I've visited), reply if
needed, all of which would take about 2 minutes maximum.

Fora are slow, hard to navigate, the threading is no better than even Outleak
(which I have used) or Eudora, and seems worse than the threading in KMail
(under Linux). For discussions, they are not as convenient as the
alternatives. For support, they are more use, but my experience (so far) is
that even there email is faster and more convenient.
