Yes, indeed.
But I *will* suggest the general form the rewrite should take:
1st: The page should be divided into:
- Instructions for Unix and Linux.
- Instructions for Windows.
- Instructions for Mac.
2nd: Each of those should be divided into 2 subsections:
- Getting Setup.
- Editing the website.
For the sake of illustration, I have written a sample "getting setup"
section for Unix. All the sections should follow a similar format. Jean, I
would love to hear your thoughts on it:
Unix instructions -- Getting setup
=================
Before you can start using CVS, there is some setting up you need to do.
1) Generate an SSH key
This will be used to setup your account. It is necessary to establish
authenticity. In other words, that you are really you :-)
Type the following:
$ ssh-keygen -d
Enter file in which to save the key (/home/dcarrera/.ssh/id_dsa)
Enter passphrase (empty for no passphrase):
Note: You can safely accept the default file name.
2) Locate your "public key".
Go to the directory where your key was created. In this example,
/home/dcarrera/.ssh
Type 'ls' and you should see two files: id_dsa and id_dsa.pub
The 'id_dsa.pub' contains your "public key". This is the file you need
to give us to obtain access.
3) Submit your public key.
Your public key is submitted using IssueZilla (IZ). Before you can do
this, you need to ask the project lead two questions:
a) "On which IZ project should I upload the SSH key?"
b) "Who should I assign the issue to? What is the login name?"
c) "Which sub-component should I select?"
Once you have that information, you can proceed:
1. Go to http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/TLogin
2. If you don't have an OOo login, make one now.
3. Login.
4. Click on "File issue" (left column).
5. Scroll down to the bottom and click on "Go on - submit the issue".
6. Click on the IZ project. This is the answer to question (a) above.
7. Under "Assigned to" type the login name from question (b) above.
8. Under "Summary", type "Request for CVS access".
9. Under "Description", type something like "I'm uploading my SSH
key to get CVS access".
10. Scroll down and click on "Submit issue".
11. Now the issue has been created. Click on "Go back to ISSUE# xyz".
12. Scroll down until you see the section "Attachments".
13. Click on "Create a new attachment".
14. Click on "Browse" and select the file 'id_dsa.pub' that you
created. Notice that the folder '.ssh' is a hidden folder. So you
will have to type the entire path under file name:
"/home/dcarrera/.ssh/id_dsa.pub"
15. Under "description" type "My SSH key".
16. Select "Binary file".
17. Click "Submit".
18. Take down the issue number on a piece of paper, you will need this.
4) Write to the list with the following information:
- Your user id (the one you used to login to the site).
- The issue number (from step 3 part 18).
- Request "Developer status".
- Request "CVS access".
Cheers,
