who did, what parts were actually helpful? Which parts were totally ignored? If ignored, why?

I originally put the how-to comparison tables for my own use, and then I published them in my original "Taming OpenOffice.org" book and put them on my website. I have received many enthusiastic thank you notes from people who have found them useful, both for themselves and even more for giving to more clueless colleagues or clients. Of course, that's a biased sample; people are unlikely to write to me and say "what a useless collection of information".

OK. But flash forward from the early days of OOo, ca. 2005 or so to now. There has to be a significant reason to present today a document about what then was more of a brochure.

One reason why rarely there was much ado plus or negative about the Migration Guide is that it became irrelevant, IMO. And few today even know of its existence.

However, there is a need to spare users from entering some areas where the conversions to/from OOo and other apps fail. As I mentioned before, that should be the primary impetus for having such a guide. And having that guide's advice changed afterwards to relate to the evolving development of OpenOffice and the other apps/suites.

IOW, practical advice and workarounds, mostly. No charts, any longer--please! Charts are only so informative. My IQ is at the 99.9+ percentile, but still I find charts with an X or three or their absence to be a needless mental exercise when I want to know out whether something works or not. I'm sure that our people and also lurkers could suggest material for a useful, current Migration Guide.
