This was possible under RISC OS for just about any application that
produced a chart, diagram or graphic that could be reasonably
represented in vector format. It was very useful, I could even save a
spreadsheet including text and numbers as a vector file. Ok I then lost
formulae and text editing but in a cooperative multi-tasking environment
that was rarely much of a problem. In some circumstances being able to
rotate and scale the graphic of a spreadsheet table in a desktop
publisher was very much more versatile when presenting work. Having a
standardised vector format across applications is a big advantage that
you really miss when its taken away.

I just hope this happens sooner rather than later.
