OOo is a tool, and as such, it tries to offer what users need (or even what they think they need). And quite an important need is to import MS docs flawlessly and without loss of information - that includes 3D charts. OOo is not an instrument to educate users, that's what help content and books are for. So please, I guess we'd be happy to incorporate your exposition about correct usage of the charting engine in the help or online docs, if you want to provide them.
