Hi Eric,
many thanks for trying to bring all people together,
but for the moment, I personally plan do do a HackWeek
on my own - like the Novell guys regularly do - regarding the
import of SVG graphics, with the planned outcome
of the mentioned prototype. I'll be pleased to attend your
chats afterwards with the chance to discuss advantages and
disadvantages of my proposal. I really like to have something
'at hand' to discuss about...
With best regards
Kai

Sorry Eric, it is not about the number of features, it is about the
complexity.
Sure, and I see the difference :-)
For example, if there are 1001 ways to add a footer to your document,
start imagine how to implement a "show/hide" footer feature....
Ok, even if I'm not skilled in this domain (but I'm pretty sure I can
help anyway, like a lot of other people),
but I know only one method to solve such issues: work together, and
concentrate on the technical part.
So let's start ... I propose to organize a public IRC meeting, with
everybody is warmly invited,
and all sides represented.
As first agenda, I'd suggest :
Point1
make [as objectively as possible] a point about what does at the moment
use OpenOffice.org,
for rendering : explain the history, the possibilities, and compare with
what
Suggestion : Kai Ahrens, Christian Lippka, Thorsten Behrens, Radek Dulik
and
other skilled people only, to pre-define commonly the content
(will save time too, and let us concentrate on the essential)
Point 2
Shortly : explain [objectively] the current solution, explain
licenses/trademark issues
Main point: what can be reused in OpenOffice.org
Suggestion : could be somebody not specialist, and CC member, for
neutrality reason, chairing/driving this poin,t ?
Point 3
Define publically and together a choice about the future renderer to
use, and start working all on that.
Suggestion : all can suggest ideas, but after skilled specialist
defended their point of view.
Good sign of democracy : arrive to a consensus, without vote ...
Action Item for second meeting (What Alexandro proposed can be added, of
course, but I don't have the link at hand):
- propose a pre-todo : the list of features to be written / implemented
- identify/ recruit resources
- define teams wortking on that
- propose a timeline
- propose rules for the team working on that
Date : this week say Friday in the morning, and an hour like 11:00 am (
CEST, i.e Paris / Hamburg) ?
Next IRC meetings: every two weeks ?
Of course, this is a draft, and it can be amended, modified .. and so on
.. any feedback greatly appreciated"
