- make it searchable (including tags)
- provide the search results in gallery themes or any other container
that is able to show thumbnail
- include some kind of hierarchy (tags might help here already)
- make it easy to add new online repositories (links directly in the
application, content presentation via extension)
- perhaps the ability to have a dockable gallery window...
But the most important point would be:
- use SVG vector graphics as basic format for clipart (or another vector
format, that can be produced "on the fly" form SVG), so the already
existing clipart can be integrated without problems.
I know a bit about the historical problems on SVG - but besides the
emotions and different opinions on political aims discussion seem to
become more and more constructive: I hope for a good working basis for
you, Thorsten Behrens and everybody else involved in that topic and
interested in contribution.
In my eyes the SVG support is much more important than improving the
gallery. So I would totally agree if you decided to spend more time on
SVG and postpone gallery for a few weeks or even months.
All in all I love the gallery to become more like an "asset manager"
than just a place with some clip art. Adding search and taging
functionality. Maybe even shared galleries.
I may create an initial wiki page so anyone who likes to work with
me on this please drop a note.
Please tell me (on the list might be enough) when you started that task.
Even if my skills aren't sufficient to work with you on the code, I'd
like to be involved...
