Hi,

In short: it would be great to have the CWS iconswitching1 integrated ;-)

Longer version:

We already have 'Industrial' icon theme in the OOo CVS, and more themes are under way, see e.g. the status of 'Crystal' and 'Mono' themes
here: http://artax.karlin.mff.cuni.cz/~kendy/ooo/icons/status/

To make use of them, we need a nice and simple way of switching between them. Such thing is implemented in the iconswitching1 CWS. In fact, in addition to the images.zip file, we have images_<theme-name>.zip for every theme, and the user can switch between them using 'Tools-> Options...-> OpenOffice.org-> View-> Icon size and style'. The switch takes effect immediately after 'OK' for menus and toolbars, the rest of the images change after the OOo restart.

I was told that a specification has to be created for such a feature--- it is here

  http://specs.openoffice.org/ui_in_general/icons/icon-theme-switching.sxw

---and that an iTeam has to be formed (it also already is). I have also provided a build of the CWS (without the Crystal icon theme; see a separate mail about this) here:

  http://www.go-oo.org/tstooo/iconswitching1-m119

Please, what are the next steps?

Future work:

Would be great to remove all the a11y icons (lch_*, sch_*, etc.) from images.zip and create a special HiContrast theme (there already is an initial version of such theme in the CWS iconswtching1; see hicontrast-to-theme.pl script that creates it. It just still contains all the *h_* icons as well.) This would reduce the size of all the themes to 1/2, which would even cut down the startup time a bit.

What do you think of this approach? Does it make sense?

Thank you in advance.

Regards,
Jan
