Hi, Hop community,

“It takes a village to raise a child”, so the saying goes, and it takes a
community to make a good release. Making releases, and in particular reviewing
and voting for releases, is a central part of the Apache Way.

Hans created a release candidate (RC) 3 days ago and so far there has only been
1 vote [1]. I encourage everyone to download the release, review it, and send
an email casting your vote. PPMC members’ votes are binding, but the opinion of
committers and other people in the community matters, too.

You might say, ‘What’s the point of voting, since Julian has already cast a -1
vote?’. Two reasons. First, a -1 vote is not a veto; a release vote with 5 +1
votes and 2 -1 votes would pass, because there are 3 more +1 votes than -1
votes. (That said, the release manager has the power to cancel a release
candidate even if it has the enough +1 votes.) Second, even if the RC fails, we
would like to know all of the issues in this RC so that we can fix them in the
next RC.

So, please vote on RC1 as soon as you can.

Hans,

Usually the release manager casts a vote when they send out the vote email.
E.g. “Here is my vote: +1.”

Julian
