One "aftermatch" message to this thread. You're right, the snapshots should be
sufficient. But one thing here, WDYT about informing a broader community (e.g.
via user list too) that we've started branching off a specific x.X version and 
stabilizing it and that we would welcome testing and feedback on the branch 
during the next 2-3 stabilization weeks?
