I would just use the sha-384 as the results will not be that different and that way your data will be migratable if yuo ever want it to be. I'm using hash with SHA-384 making the password unrecoverable for security reasons. New passwords issued are randomly generated. SHA-256 and above is very strong and uncracked (so far). To avoid problems with storing encypted data because of quotes and other risky characters I sometimes use ToBase64(myEncryptedString) which always gives you alphanumeric characters.
