You could just use paypal which the easy way and wont cost them anything
other than the commission charges and you wont need to collect creditcard
details.

Storing of card details is indeed something you should be security concious
about, and I personally would not do it on a shared server. But if you must,
then you should encrypt every piece of data you capture and stor ein the
database and use SSL on all data capture pages.

Got a client who takes a small amount of credit card payments by phone and
wants to be able to take online payments using their existing setup.
That would mean not using a payment gateway but just exposing the payment
data to them for 'manual' processing.

I am thinking security of those credit card details is the most serious
problem, but am I being too twitchy?
