I have been using Smoothwall for over a year now and had very few problems
(the problems are mainly to do with the hardware)

Needs about 40MB of space (last time I checked - about 2 iterations ago),
and it's easy to install. Download the CD ISO from smoothwall.org and then
burn it onto disc and stick it in a spare (reliable, low spec) machine.
Needs two network cards (three if you want a DMZ) and that's it.

If it's only 150 for the cost of install etc, it's worth it. I paid 100
to my mate who also supports it for me, and it's great. Really really easy
to use.

I know Nik swears by Clark Connect, but I don't really think it's that much
better. Smoothwall is really simple to use, completely web based interface
(so you can set up port forwarding/open ports etc). Easy web based access
to logs as well. Can easily set up external SSH connection to and from the
box. I'd recommend it.

The thing is, linux distro firewalls are just better, because the only cost
is the box and the support. There is no other cost involved. It's a
firewall and is meant to be simple.

Smoothwall is well worth it IMHO.
