The frustrating thing is, that I've been doing CF since v4 (although I'd come across it before then) so I'm not exactly "old", but old enough to know how I was taught stuff and that stuff has changed in CF since then. Also, I know Java, Perl, C# etc and using these tools is actually a lot easier as far as development is concerned. NOT because they are necessarily easier than CF, but because there are lots of people out there providing scripts and stuff for everyone to use. The problem with the CF community is that those sites exist, but there aren't anywhere near enough of them and almost all of them are of nothing like a high enough quality. So we then have to fall back on MM and Forta and a few others, and that's it. Knowing Java, it was quite exciting getting my hands on the CFMX beta and playing with it. The problem was, that I was already using Java with CF5 (and previously with CF4.5) and writing custom objects and providing custom applications using Java technology. As far as I was concerned, there was no real benefit in using CFC's if you can already use Java. I know there are performance differences and persistence differences, but with the stuff that I was working on, you could use CF5 and Java just as easily. I just don't think that MM produced enough new AND USEFUL features in CFMX (there are lots of new features) and certainly didn't provide enough training/resources to make us all upgrade yesterday! It just wasn't the killer web building application that I think they want us to think it is. It's a lesson to learn imho.
