> I reckon it's rubbish meself.. Ok, I think I'm with a lot of people when I say that MM's current bludgeoning of developers heads with the cudgeon of RIAs is a little bit heavy handed, but there are some fantastic uses for RIAs and coldfusion.
To start with, you're immediately talking about more immersive applications that other the lifespan of an application can a) save you a hefty bandwidth bill b) deliver immediate and asynchronous results for the user in an intuitive way c) enable interoperability with platforms other than PCs (use of dynamic flash and digital television services would be nice wouldn't it, as opposed to the travesty that is web-tv? d) enable true real time multi-user applications e) really really abstract data/logic and presentation layers and I guess there are others also. I've built some fantastically useful applications in flash with cfmx that you just couldn't do even half as well with HTML. But! Having said that, the vast majority of customers still won't pay for it / don't want the technology / want to reach the lowest common denominator, so unlike the panel at the UK CFUG conference, I don't believe that flash is gonna replace HTML anytime soon, but its a nice alternative. Christ, we still have customers demanding sites that are text based.
