I do agree. however, If you are building a rich media client, surely that should be Rich media (ie do something HTML cannot)....As it stands the MM site is simply emulating HTML using Flash...A little bit of a no-brainer if you ask me. I don't feel that utilising Flash as a level up from the browser to render HTML is particularly clever, or cutting edge.(Like the endless flash intros we used to get years ago)..It is more a case of Macromedia perhaps trying to make the Flash player more important than the browser it is embedded in ... Watch as later versions of Flash have more and more support for HTML/XML .....
I don't believe Flash is that great at rendering text in the first instance (Been using it since Flash 2), lots of text and it simply folds/crashes the browser/flashplayer/your pc. The new text options have moved some way to addressing this, but it still isn't perfect by any means. I can certainly see the potential of the use of CF with Flash, also all the differing MX methods of deploying rich-media applications...(even if the Flash MX components system is virtually impenetrable - have you seen the Documentation for Communication Server...That stuff is my idea of hell!) I also believe that it should be used in a relevant way... Flash is notoriously bad for stealing all your system resources. In the case of the Macromedia site, this causes everything to slow to a crawl, hence making the site all very pretty, but pretty unusable...Unless of course you have a super-fast connection and a decent PC... I feel Macromedia need to address what Flash is going to be used for in the future and subequently re-design the player to accommodate this. At present it doesn't seem to be able to support some of the more complex things one may throw at it. (Try mathematically generated 3d) It also appears to be great at some things, and absolutely terrible at others....(right click???)...Try opening a list entry on the macromedia site in a new window....AAARGGH that is SOOO frustrating. Having differing versions of the player may help...I read somewhere that the player uses loads of system resources to keep the initial download of the player small. This is fine...But in the new era of broadband, surely there could be a player which is slightly bigger to download and doesn't rely so much on your processor, amking everything smoother.
