Have you set up all the connections etc? i.e. defined a project and the
server type etc you should then have the three options available : design
view, code view and live data view from the toolbar.

Live Data View basically just opens the page up via internal IE engine and
parses the data as if you did just type in the URL within the locator.

I'm giving DWMX another shot and found that if you paste header and
footer cfmodule code into a template in Code View and flip into Design
View, you don't get to see the page preview as though you opened IE and
typed in the url, even if you've entered the HTTP Address for the site
in the Site Definition window.

Is this basically how DWMX works? Is Design View only of use if you're
working on completely stand-alone pages?

Thanks
