yes, some firewalls can be configured to remove/quarantine attachments, to
prevent spread of viruses mostly.  not sure why others can send you .doc
attachments though, if the cops can't.

why would mimesweeper/checkpoint want to change a file extension for
security reasons? are you saying that because it is a .doc it could have
potential for viruses etc?

having said that I can receive word documents from others as attachments OK
:o/
